Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen Beach, Mexico This old boat sums up a lot of Playa del Carmen, Mexico for me.
Slightly weathered by the sun and surf but bright and colourful all the same. The sand is unbelievably white and cool to the touch. The sea is the most electric aqua hue. Just a beautiful place to go for a stroll. Playa is everything that Cancun, about 40 miles further north, is not. There are no high rise hotels, Starbucks branches or MacDonald's on every corner. It is still a tourist destination, but one that has managed to retain a lot of the charm and dignity that Cancun has given up for spring break and MTV.

I was walking along the white coral sand beach and saw this scene, with the people playing in the surf and it all just fell in to place. Travel photography is something that I love and this shot transports me back to this place every time I look at it. I can almost feel the sand between my toes.

About Gordon McGregor

Gordon McGregor I grew up on the west coast of Scotland and now live and work in Austin, Texas.

While relatively new to photography, I’m trying hard to make up for a lack of experience with enthusiasm for the subject. I have no formal training but have managed to learn a great deal over the last couple of years.

I am interested in both nature and travel photography and seek out the small details that we normally miss during the hectic day-to-day rush through life.
