Serious Moonlight

absolution I dream with my camera.

During the week of the full moon, there is enough ambient light to photograph at night. I venture out at night seeking to capture our world as it moves through the universe.

What occurs during my exposures, some upwards of 12 minutes, is beyond my control. Clouds arrive threatening rain, stars streak across the midnight sky and waves turn to mist. But I do not see these events until I view my prints.

Night photography provides me an opptortunity to slow down, witness the world around me and realize what glory lays around me. If I can capture a bit of that, I am happy.

I want to thank Rachel for 28mm. I have grown a lot as a photograher since that very first issue. Thanks Rach.

About Mark Warren

Standing alone in the night attempting photography is not for everyone. I find that I have a high level of anxiety went I am standing in the dark. What lurks in the shadows doesn't always view me as friendly. It takes a lot of concentration and patience. Many of my exposures run 10-12 minutes. I can be in one location upwards of three hours.

But after I have setteled down, while I wait for my exposure I get to view the world at its own pace. I think about how unimportant my worries are. I listen to waves crashing upon the shore and realize the earth is never tired. As the moon crosses the midnight sky along with the stars, I become calm and enjoy the harmony of the universe.

And if I am lucky, my camera will capture how the earth experiences time. Slowly, continually, eternally. I hope my photographs can capture the beauty which we cannot see.
